EU-U.S. COOPERATION PROVIDING DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE WAS DISCUSSED IN STOCKHOLM
On 21-22 October in Stockholm, Lithuania’s Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Evaldas Ignatavičius took part in the informal meeting of EU Ministers for Development Cooperation, during which further EU-U.S. cooperation in the field of development cooperation was discussed. The vice-minister also attended the European Development Days.
Vice-Minister E.Ignatavičius took part in the event at the invitation of Minister for International Development Cooperation of Sweden Gunilla Carlsson.
The Vice Minister presented the project that is being implemented by Lithuania in the field of capacity building of the Ukrainian customs as a successful example of EU-U.S. development cooperation. Vice Minister E.Ignatavičius also suggested cooperating in the area of Afghanistan’s reconstruction more closely.
During the visit, Lithuania’s Vice Minister, State Secretary to the Minister for International Development Cooperation of Sweden Joakim Stymne and representatives from the Department for Eastern Europe and Central Asia discussed the cooperation between Lithuania and Sweden in partner countries, other important issues of relations with neighbours in the East.
Vice-Minister E.Ignatavičius also took part in the European Development Days in Stockholm on 22-24 October. The European Development Days are a forum of European discussions on the topic of development cooperation that is organised by the European Commission. This international event provides an opportunity to debate global issues related to governance, combating climate change, international finance, trade, food security, water, energy, the role of the media, human and social rights.
At the event, Lithuania’s development cooperation policy is presented in a joint stand of Baltic States. After the transition from a recipient of assistance into a donor country, this year Lithuania is presenting the projects on human rights and democracy promotion, sustainable development, education and strengthening of cultural relations, as well as other projects that are being successfully implemented in Afghanistan (the Ghor Province), Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine and other countries.
