EU TRADE POLICY WAS DISCUSSED IN LUXEMBOURG

On 15 October Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas took part in the informal meeting of the EU Trade Ministers and European Commissioner for External Trade  Peter Mandelson where important issues of the EU common trade policy were discussed.

The participants of the meeting considered the issues related to the external competitiveness of the EU presented by the Commissioner  Mandelson, as well as the measures that would help the Member States enhance their and the whole Europe’s competitiveness and promote well-being of the EU inhabitants.

The importance of job creation and sustainable development based on effective internal market and foreign trade policy instruments has been emphasised.

Special attention was paid to regional agreements on trade and economic cooperation that the EU planned to negotiate. The EU trade policy issues related to proposed changes to anti-dumping regulation were also discussed.
