EU STRATEGY FOR DEVELOPMENT WAS CONFIRMED
On 22 November Lithuanian Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Oskaras Jusys took part in the European Union General Affairs and External Relations Council’s (GAERC) development policy session in Brussels.
During the session the EU development policy ministers, representatives from the European Commission and the European Parliament agreed the EU Development Policy Declaration “The European Consensus”.
The new document outlines the common development policy goals, values and principles, that the EU and the Member States should follow striving for poverty reduction and sustainable development.
The new EU development policy includes such countries as Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, and the South Caucasus that are important for Lithuania.
During the meeting the ministers discussed the possibilities for improvement of the EU aid effectiveness, framework for the future EU strategy for Africa, the EU Members’ and the European Commission’s achievements and difficulties in implementation of action plan for strengthening of the rapidly-deployable natural disaster response capabilities.
