EU NEIGHBOURHOOD POLICY TOWARDS MOLDOVA WAS DISCUSSED IN VILNIUS
On 2 October Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas met with the European Union’s Special Representative for Moldova Adriaan Jacobovits de Szeged who is on a visit to Vilnius and discussed advantages and challenges of the EU Neighbourhood Policy in Moldova when the country is implementing political and economic reforms.
At the meeting special attention was paid to discussion of Moldova’s relations with Russia and Ukraine. Opinions on the prospects of the Transnistrian conflict settlement were exchanged.
The participants of the meeting also addressed the “5+2” negotiations (Moldova, Transnistria, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Russia, Ukraine, the EU and the U.S.) that have practically stopped since March and possibilities of the earliest resumption of the negotiations.
Minister Vaitiekūnas spoke for early implementation of the EU Neighbourhood Policy and for search of effective negotiation formats to settle the Transnistrian conflict.
Deputy EU’s Special Representative for Moldova Tomas Baranovas also took part in the meeting.
