On 3 May, an informal meeting of EU, OSCE and CoE representatives on the situation in Belarus took place in Vilnius.
During the meeting the officials exchanged opinions on the latest events in Belarus and discussed international institutions’ activities in this country, as well as the problems of OSCE mission’s operation in Belarus.
The participants expressed a unanimous opinion on the necessity to continue this mission in Belarus. An opinion prevailed that Belarusian authorities at different levels do not make use of the proposed co-operation possibilities, especially implementing a democratisation process in the country.
All participants spoke in favour of Lithuania’s initiative as relevant and discussed a possibility of its continuation: one of the priorities of Lithuania’s Chairmanship at the EU was closer co-ordination of OSCE, CoE and similar organizations’ activities on various issues.
