EU AND RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTERS PAID ATTENTION TO THE KALININGRAD REGION
On 19 September in the framework of the 60th Session of the UN General Assembly European Union’s foreign ministers met with Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov.
In discussion of the upcoming EU-Russia Summit in London on 4 October Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that it is favourable time now for paying more attention to social and economic development of the Kaliningrad region. The Head of Russian diplomacy assured that Russian Government intends to give priority to this issue.
EU and Russian foreign ministers marked the significant progress in EU-Russia negotiations on visa regime facilitation. Russian Minister also gave positive assessment of the order of passenger and cargo transit via Lithuania to the Kaliningrad region.
Topical bilateral issues are planned to be discussed during Lithuanian-Russian Intergovernmental Commission meeting in Palanga this week.
EU and Russian foreign ministers also considered the issues of Iran, the Balkans and the Near East peace process.
