ECONOMY AND BILATERAL RELATIONS WERE DISCUSSED IN CHINA

On 13 April Lithuanian Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis, who is on official visit to China, met with the Vice-President of China Zeng Qinghong, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing and the Head of Foreign Affairs Committee of Chinese Parliament Jiang Enzhu.

The participants of the meetings discussed bilateral cooperation issues and the visits of the high-level officials planned for autumn. Chinese officials confirmed that they expect the President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus to come to Beijing in the second part of September.

The Chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Jia Qinglin is to visit Lithuania in autumn.

“Thus we will commemorate the 15th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our countries,” Lithuanian Foreign Minister said.

In the meetings with Chinese officials relations with neighbours, international topicalities of the latter days were discussed. Minister Valionis showed interest in Chinese position on further liberalization of trade.

“Our economy is open, but we have to take into consideration the interests of 50 thousand Lithuanians working in the textile industry,” the Head of Lithuanian Diplomacy stated.

Foreign Minister Valionis did not deny a possibility that in the future more Lithuanian businessmen would transfer their production to China, so he asked to create favourable conditions for Lithuanian investors. The Minister also invited Chinese companies to invest more actively in Lithuania.

Lithuania received an invitation to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and an international  exhibition “EXPO 2010”.
