ECONOMIC COOPERATION BETWEEN LITHUANIA AND CHINA IS DISCUSSED IN BEIJING
In Beijing, on 12-13 December, during the ninth meeting of the Lithuanian-Chinese Economic and Trade Cooperation Committee, bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and China is discussed, as well as the China-European Union economic dialogue.
The Lithuanian delegation is headed by Albinas Zananavičius, Director of the Foreign Trade Policy Department of Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Chinese delegation is headed by Xu Tongkai, Director General of the Department of Europe of the Ministry of Commerce of People’s Republic of China. Among the members of the Lithuanian delegation, there also are representatives from the Lithuanian Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Agriculture and Lithuanian State Department of Tourism.
During the meeting, the participants from both countries demonstrated readiness to further develop bilateral economic and trade cooperation. The participants of the meeting exchanged opinions on the China-EU economic dialogue and stated that Lithuania’s EU membership had a positive impact on the development of bilateral Lithuanian-Chinese relations.
The delegations agreed that there were fine perspectives for Lithuanian-Chinese cooperation in the areas of transport, investment, tourism, agriculture, the development of small and medium businesses, etc. They also decided to invite representatives of trade associations to take part in the meeting of the committee in the future.
The meetings of the Lithuanian-Chinese Economy and Trade Cooperation Committee are held since 1995. The next meeting is planned in 2008, in Vilnius.
