E-PINE POLITICAL DIRECTORS’ MEETING IN WASHINGTON, D.C., TAKES STOCK OF PREPARATIONS FOR THE EASTERN PARTNERSHIP SUMMIT IN VILNIUS
At the political directors’ consultations of the Enhanced Partnership in Northern Europe (e-PINE) on 12 November in Washington, D.C., the Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Dalius Čekuolis presented preparations for the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius.
“We hope that the Vilnius Summit will be a historical event, which will have a significant impact on the entire Eastern European region. Today we have to start thinking about how the EU and its transatlantic partners will continue to work with the Eastern Partnership countries,” D.Čekuolis said.
During the consultations, high-ranking diplomats from the Nordic and Baltic countries and the U.S. Department of State discussed cooperation in fields such as energy security and cyber security, and exchanged views on regional security and other important global policy issues.
Sweden coordinates the e-PINE activities and organised a strategic discussion with leaders and experts of the U.S. analytical centres. Policy-makers and planners from the U.S. Department of State and Foreign Ministries of the Baltic and Nordic countries, and American experts discussed further e-PINE initiatives in support of reforms and the process of transformation in Eastern Europe. The event was attended by representatives from the following analytical centres: Atlantic Council, Center for Strategic and International Studies, JHU Strategic and Advanced International Studies Center, National Democratic Institute.
