DURING THE MEETING WITH THE PRESIDENT OF GEORGIA, LITHUANIA’S FOREIGN MINISTER EMPHASIZED THE NECESSITY TO CONTINUE REFORMS

On 7 February during the Munich Security Conference, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vygaudas Ušackas and President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili discussed bilateral relations, Georgia’s internal policy, also the issues of international policy and international security. The Minister voiced support to Georgia’s territorial integrity, integration into the European Union and NATO. Head of the Lithuanian diplomacy emphasized the necessity for Georgia to continue its internal reforms, to strengthen administrative capacities of the country, to make thorough use of the European Union’s Eastern Partnership initiative and, thereby, promised the support of the Lithuanian experts for this purpose.

“A democratic, secure and prosperous Georgia is the main and the only key to the solution of conflicts in Georgia’s territory and the successful EU and NATO integration of your country”, said V.Ušackas.

The President of Georgia thanked Lithuania for its firm support to his country, while consolidating democratic achievements and seeking for the EU and NATO integration.

V.Ušackas was pleased with expanding political and economic cooperation between Lithuania and Georgia: the visit of Georgia’s Speaker of the Parliament to Lithuania, which is to happen soon, the visit of the Speaker of Lithuania’s Seimas (the Parliament) to Georgia and the reciprocal visit of Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Grigol Vashadze to Lithuania were discussed.

The previous meeting between Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and the President of Georgia took place on 28 December last year, during the working visit of Minister V.Ušackas to Georgia. During the visit, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs met with all the highest-ranking officials of Georgia.
