DURING THE MEETING WITH CHAIRMAN OF UKRAINE’S PARLIAMENT SPECIAL ATTENTION WAS PAID TO LITHUANIAN-UKRAINIAN COOPERATION IN THE AREAS OF ENERGY AND TRANSPORT

On 25 April Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas with visiting Chairman of the Parliament (Verkhovna Rada) of Ukraine Oleksander Moroz discussed important issues of bilateral relations paying special attention to the issues of energy cooperation and the development of transport link between the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea. Minister P.Vaitiekūnas welcomed the successful implementation of project of express freight train “Viking” running between Klaipėda and Ilyichovsk seaports and connecting the Baltic and the Black Sea regions.

“We have to gain full benefit from the freight carrying potential of the train “Viking”. We are interested in other parties to join the project,” Minister P.Vaitiekūnas said.

Discussing issues of Ukraine’s cooperation with the EU and NATO, Minister P.Vaitiekūnas indicated that Ukraine was strategically significant in Europe and highlighted that Lithuania would continue to share its European integration experience.

Chairman of the Parliament of Ukraine O.Moroz put stress on the fact that Lithuanian experience with democratic reforms and European integration was helpful for Ukraine. The Chairman of the Parliament welcomed the intensification of bilateral parliamentary relations.

Furthermore, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Chairman of the Parliament of Ukraine discussed the political situation in Ukraine.

“I am certain that Ukraine will arrive to a compromise conforming to the Constitution. Agreements and compromises constitute a part of democratic society,” said Minister P.Vaitiekūnas.

Chairman of the Parliament of Ukraine Mr Moroz assured the Head of Lithuanian diplomacy that the leaders of Ukraine would find a way out of the situation in the nearest future.
