DURING THE GAERC MEETING FOREIGN MINISTER UNDERLINED THE NECESSITY TO REMOVE INTERNAL MARKET OBSTACLES AND WELCOMED COMMISSION’S POSITION ON EU-RUSSIA COOPERATION

On 16 March during the General Affairs and External Relations Council (GAERC) meeting in Brussels Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis underlined the necessity to remove obstacles for completing the creation of single internal market. During the GAERC general affairs session the EU foreign ministers paid special attention to the preparation of the next week’s European Council meeting. The main emphasis of this meeting will be laid on rewiew of the Lisbon strategy. In the GAERC meeting Lithuanian Foreign Minister underlined that development of lacking transport and infrastructure connections is important for completing the creation of internal market. A.Valionis also stated that further removal of obstacles for service delivery is significant for European Union’s economy. During the GAERC external relations session Lithuanian Foreign Minister supported the Commission’s position offering the Road Maps for EU-Russian cooperation in four common external security, economics, justice, science and culture spaces to be adopted as a single package. A.Valionis stressed the importance of active EU participation in Georgia and the necessity to send the EU border observation mission to this country to replace the finished border monitoring operation of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
