DURING THE ASIA-EUROPE BUSINESS FORUM, THE SIGNIFICANCE OF SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT SECTOR DEVELOPMENT IS EMPHASISED

On 22-23 October in Beijing (China) during the Asia-Europe Business Forum (ASEM), Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Oskaras Jusys emphasised the significance of sustainable development of the transport sector in the Asian-European Meeting (ASEM) region.

During the forum, major attention was dedicated to the discussions on the international economic and financial situation. Issues that are important to all the Asian and European Union countries were analysed: namely, they are related to energy and financial security, trade and investment, and climate change.

At the forum, Undersecretary of the Ministry O.Jusys informed the international business audience about the Lithuanian initiative to open up an ASEM dialogue on transport, about the Transport development forum, which will be dedicated to business representatives and held together with the first ASEM Ministerial Meeting on Transport. This meeting is organised at Lithuania’s initiative on 19-20 October, 2009, in Vilnius.

While participating at the meeting, Undersecretary of the Ministry O.Jusys had business conversations with Vice President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, President of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China Joerg Wuttke - during the forum.

On 23 October in Beijing the ASEM Senior Officials’ Meeting is taking place, and on 24 October the 7th ASEM Summit starts, during which the Lithuanian delegation will be headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas.
