DISCUSSION ON LITHUANIAN AND GERMAN COOPERATION WAS ORGANIZED
On 20 January, on the initiative of Lithuanian History Institute and Ministry of Foreign Affairs a round table discussion “Prospects of development of Lithuanian and German cooperation in the context of the EU and NATO membership” was organised in Vilnius.
Lithuanian and German science, culture, business and political representatives discussed present Lithuanian and German cooperation and its further development possibilities.“After Lithuania became full-fledged member of the European Union and NATO in the view of country’s European policy we find more and more common interests and contact points with Germany. We should maintain and expand Lithuanian and German relations in all areas, thus contributing not only to development of Baltic Sea region but also to strengthening the whole European Union. Cooperation between Lithuania and Germany should be not only concern of politicians and diplomats, we should strive to involve the broadest possible social circles from both countries in it,” – stated Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs A. Valionis, starting the discussion.
The participants of the round-table discussion considered present Lithuanian and German political and economical cooperation, countries’ scientific and cultural ties.
They exchanged opinions on prospects of this cooperation and deliberated on prerequisites for better promotion of Lithuanian and German bilateral relations.
The parties agreed on necessity to continue discussions about fostering Lithuanian and German relations in the future.
