DIPLOMATS CONTINUE DIALOGUE WITH LITHUANIAN MEMBERS OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT
On 22 December Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas met with the Members of the European Parliament elected in Lithuania and discussed important issues of the European Union agenda included in the programme of German EU Presidency during the first half of 2007.
Special attention was paid to European Energy Policy, EU-Russia relations, European Neighbourhood Policy, the future of the EU.
The Head of Lithuanian Diplomacy marked that Germany taking over the EU Presidency has particular responsibility for settlement of topical EU issues.
“We hope that Germans will succeed in bringing together EU Member States and their political will, and we promise our support and cooperation on all issues of importance to Europe and Lithuania,” Minister Vaitiekūnas said.
The Minister invited Lithuanian Members of the European Parliament to exchange opinions on the processes taking place in the EU and in the world. He also welcomed their proposal to widen a circle of friends in the European Parliament in order to protect Lithuania’s interests more effectively.
Members of the European Parliament Laima Liucija Andrikienė, Arūnas Degutis, Gintaras Didžiokas, Eugenijus Gentvilas, Vytautas Landsbergis, Eugenijus Maldeikis, Justas Vincas Paleckis, Aloyzas Sakalas, Margarita Starkevičiūtė took part in the meeting.
