DIPLOMATS AND BUSINESSMEN DELIBERATE EFFECTIVE REPRESENTATION OF ECONOMIC INTERESTS ABROAD
On 20 April, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vygaudas Ušackas and heads of Lithuanian business organisations discussed ways of attracting investment, promoting Lithuanian exports and guaranteeing effective representation of Lithuania in foreign countries.
“Economic diplomacy is an important tool, which we seek to use in search of new markets, promotion of exports of our goods and attraction of investments to Lithuania. This is currently one of key priorities of our foreign policy,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs.
During the meeting, Minister V.Ušackas indicated that a permanent dialogue of business and diplomats was necessary in order to guarantee a proper representation of country’s economic interests abroad.
The Minister and representatives of business discussed the possible best ways to protect the interests of business abroad effectively with fewer resources. Representatives of business requested to guarantee that while the assignations were being reduced to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the economic diplomacy should not suffer because of that.
Minister of Foreign Affairs informed the participants of the meeting that a facilitated procedure of issuance of Schengen visas was applied for businessmen and investors with unblemished reputation coming to Lithuania for the purposes of business.
During the meeting, business missions to Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Algeria, Israel, Turkey and India that are planned for this year were also discussed.
Heads of the Lithuanian Development Agency, Lithuanian Business Employers’ Confederation, International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Lithuania, Association of Lithuanian Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Crafts, Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists, Lithuanian State Department of Tourism at the Ministry of Economy, Lithuanian Tourism Association and newspaper “Verslo žinios” took part in the event.
Meetings with heads of Lithuanian business organisations are take place regularly, thus aiming to hold consultations with Lithuanian exporters and investors and to implement effective economic diplomacy.
