DIPLOMATS ACCREDITED IN TBILISI MADE A STATEMENT REGARDING THE UPCOMING PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS IN GEORGIA
On 31 December, 2007, the working group of Ambassadors for the presidential elections in Georgia 2008 made a joint statement regarding the presidential elections that are due on 5 January, 2008 in Georgia. The purpose of the joint statement is to encourage all of the political forces to acknowledge the results of the democratic elections.
The joint statement encourages guaranteeing free and fair elections and the opportunity for the citizens of Georgia to exercise their constitutional right to vote.
Asserting the support to the international election observation missions in Georgia, it was also emphasized that all the political forces had to carry out obligations that were set out in the international election standards, and give serious consideration to the conclusions and recommendations of these election observation missions.
In Tbilisi, the working group of Ambassadors for the presidential elections in Georgia 2008 is headed by the missions of Organization for Security Co-operation in Europe and the United Nations to Georgia. It consists of the Council of Europe, the European Commission, the European Union and Heads of the OSCE member states Heads of diplomatic representations and missions, accredited in Georgia.
