Diplomat Raimundas Karoblis appointed as new Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania
The new Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Raimundas Karoblis takes office on 4 March. Karoblis replaces the former Foreign Vice-Minister Arnoldas Pranckevicius, who has been appointed as Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the European Union.
Karoblis will be tasked with the EU's policy formulation and implementation, relations with the EU institutions, bilateral relations with European countries, Lithuania's foreign trade policy, strategic communication, as well as preparation for Lithuania's Presidency of the Council of the EU.
“Raimundas Karoblis joins the political team of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during turbulent times. Permanent close contacts and strategic consultations with our partners in Brussels and other European capitals is probably one of our key tasks today,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis.
Karoblis served as the Minister of National Defence of Lithuania from 2016 to 2020. Prior to that, he was then Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the EU and the Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the World Trade Organisation. He also served as the Director of the Economic Department and the Foreign Trade Policy Department of Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
