DEMARCATION WORKS WERE DISCUSSED IN THE JOINT LITHUANIAN-RUSSIAN DEMARCATION COMMISSION MEETING

On 25-26 April during the first meeting of the Joint Lithuanian-Russian Demarcation Commission the regulations of the Commission that form the legal base for beginning of demarcation of  Lithuanian-Russian state border were adopted.

During the meeting the first draft legislation prepared by Lithuanian and Russian experts was considered, the principles of distribution of demarcation works and further actions that should be taken were addressed.

On 27 April the Joint Lithuanian-Russian Demarcation Commission plans to examine the Lithuanian-Belarusian state border, which has already been demarcated.

The next meeting of the Commission is planned in Russia in June-July.

Lithuanian delegation of the Joint Commission is headed by the Director of Foreign Ministry Eastern Europe and Central Asia Department and the Chairman of the Commission for Delimitation and Demarcation of the State Border of the Republic of Lithuania Zenonas Kumetaitis and Russian delegation – by the Ambassador at Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Aleksej Obuchov.
