CZECH SENATE RATIFIES PROTOCOLS OF LITHUANIA’S ACCESSION TO WASHINGTON TREATY

On 7 August 2003, the Czech upper parliamentary chamber - the Senate – ratified the NATO accession protocols of Lithuania and other six Central and Eastern European countries. 60 out of 64 senators present during the vote were in favour of the invitees’ entry into NATO. The ratification procedure is yet to be completed by the President of the Czech Republic. It is expected that all the nineteen members of the Alliance will ratify the accession protocols by the next NATO summit in May 2004.
