COOPERATION BETWEEN LITHUANIA AND TANZANIA WAS DISCUSSED

On 19 April in Vilnius Lithuanian Vice-minister of Foreign Affairs Evaldas Ignatavičius discussed with Ambassador of Tanzania to Lithuania Muhammed M. H. Mzale bilateral economic, trade and cultural ties, possibilities to cooperate in international forums.

Vice-minister extended an invitation to Tanzanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Bernard Kamillius Membe to attend the Ministerial Meeting of Community of Democracies which is to be held in Vilnius on 1 July.

The Ambassador noted that Tanzania is a tourist country. Each year Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater and the Masai who live in the north of Tanzania attract thousands of tourists from all over the world.

According to him, Tanzania takes pride in the highest mountain of Africa Mount Kilimanjaro and Lake Victoria - the largest in Africa and the second largest freshwater lake in the world. He assured, that during his term of office he would strengthen bilateral relations between Tanzania and Lithuania, would promote economic and trade cooperation between the states.

Ambassador M.M.H.Mzale residing in Sweden came to Vilnius to present credentials to the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė. The Ambassador is accredited to the Northern and Baltic States.

Lithuania and Tanzania established diplomatic relations on 11 November, 1993.

In 2010 Lithuania's exports to Tanzania amounted to 17,3 million Litas (about 5 million EUR). The principal exports were wheat, machinery, medical instruments and radio navigation equipment. Lithuania's imports from Tanzania amounted to 7,9 million Litas (about 2,29 million EUR). Lithuania mainly imported raw tobacco, coconut and cashew nuts, cotton yarn.
