CONSULTATIONS OF POLISH AND LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTRIES FOCUS ON POLAND’S UPCOMING EU PRESIDENCY

On 9 June in Warsaw, the consultations of Lithuanian and Polish Foreign Ministries focussed on Poland’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the priorities of the Presidency and relations with neighbours.

Political Director of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Eitvydas Bajarūnas and Political Director of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jaroslaw Bratkiewicz took part in the consultations.

They discussed a wide range of foreign policy issues and consulted on the EU policy and actions with regard to the EU’s Eastern and Southern neighbourhood during the Polish Presidency. In addition to the Presidency’s major events that are planned on this subject, the summit of the EU Eastern Partnership initiative will be held on 29-30 September in Warsaw.

Among the members of the EU Eastern Partnership initiative there are: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

The Political Director of Lithuanian and Polish foreign ministries also discussed the EU’s relations with Russia, the issues associated with the enlargement of the European Union and security policy.

Poland will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from 1 July to 31 December this year.

During the visit to Warsaw, E.Bajarūnas also met with President of Stefan Batory Foundation Aleksander Smolar.
