CONSULTATIONS OF LITHUANIAN AND UKRAINIAN FOREIGN MINISTRIES FOCUS ON THE OSCE AGENDA AND ISSUES OF INTEGRATION INTO THE EU

On 14 June during the consultations in Vilnius, Political Director of Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Eitvydas Bajarūnas and Director-General of the Directorate General for Security and Political Affairs of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleksandr Aleksandrovich discussed the agenda of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the issues of Ukraine’s integration into the EU.

The officials also discussed preparations for the Eastern Partnership Summit due on 29-30 September in Warsaw, regional security, relations with neighbouring countries and the EU’s Southern neighbourhood.

E.Bajarūnas and O.Aleksandrovich exchanged their views towards priorities of the Chairmanship of the OSCE Lithuanian and Ukraine’s Presidency of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers, and noted that Lithuania and Ukraine were united by an aim to develop democracy in Europe.

Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Kostyantyn Gryshchenko was invited to participate in the Community of Democracies Ministerial on 1 July in Lithuania.

E.Bajarūnas said that Lithuania strongly supported Ukraine’s goal already this year to complete the negotiations with the EU on an Association Agreement, which would become an important catalyst for Ukraine’s future reforms.

During his visit in Lithuania, O.Aleksandrovich also met with Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Evaldas Ignatavičius and Chief Adviser to the President Darius Semaška.
