CONSULTATIONS OF LITHUANIAN AND GREEK MFA POLITICAL DIRECTORS WERE HELD IN ATHENS
On 13 July in Athens, Political Director of Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Eitvydas Bajarūnas took part in political consultations with Director General for Political Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece Tryphon Paraskevopoulos and other high-ranking officials from the Ministry.
The political directors of Lithuanian and Greek foreign ministries exchanged opinions on key issues of the European Union’s foreign policy.The preparation for trio Presidency of the European Union by - Lithuania, Greece and Ireland in 2013-2014, and Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) were discussed during the consultations. Greece held the Chairmanship of the Organization in 2009 and therefore its experience is useful to Lithuania, as the country will take over the chairmanship of the OSCE in 2011.
The political directors also discussed security policy, important OSCE issues, the situation in Afghanistan and cooperation in providing assistance to this country.
