CONSULTATIONS OF LITHUANIAN AND CYPRIOT FOREIGN MINISTRIES FOCUSED ON INTERNATIONAL POLICY ISSUES

On 25 May at the political consultations in Vilnius, the delegations led by political director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Eitvydas Bajarūnas and political director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus Rea Yiordamlis agreed to further strengthen the dialogue between Lithuania and Cyprus on topical international policy issues.

E.Bajarūnas and R.Yiordamlis exchanged opinions on the situation in the European Union’s Southern and Eastern neighbourhood and discussed the Middle East peace process.

E.Bajarūnas acquainted the political director of the Cypriot Foreign Ministry with Lithuania’s ongoing Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

R.Yiordamlis informed E.Bajarūnas about the latest developments related to Cyprus reintegration.

At the meeting, the officials also discussed prospects of the EU-NATO relations and possibilities for these organizations to cooperate more in practical areas.

The Lithuanian and Cypriot delegations also exchanged views on preparations for the EU Presidency. Cyprus will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2012, and Lithuania will take over the Presidency a year later, during the second half of 2013.
