Consultations in Hanoi focus on Lithuania-Vietnam cooperation
The bilateral political consultations of Lithuanian and Vietnamese Foreign Ministries were held on 6 May in Hanoi. The consultations were headed by the Director of Latin America, Africa, Asia and Pacific Department Ina Marčiulionytė and Director General of Europe Department of Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry Tran Ngoc An.
The consultations focused on a possibility to advance ties in political, consular relations, economic, cultural and other areas.
Cooperation within international organisations and the EU-Vietnam negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement received special attention during the meeting. The officials also discussed the EU- ASEAN cooperation, events in Ukraine and Vietnam’s relations with neighbouring countries.
The parties agreed that the countries must make far better use of the potential of trade relations between Lithuania and Vietnam. They also agreed to exchange relevant information, to increase the number of visits of delegations and of Vietnamese students in Lithuanian institutions of higher education, as well as to organise the exchange of artists representing the countries’ culture.
On the first day of the visit, the Lithuanian delegation was received by the Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Ngoc Son. The visit also includes meetings with representatives of various Ministries and the Delegation of the European Union in Vietnam.
