Consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Lithuania and Latvia held in Liepāja
On Friday, July 18, the traditional annual informal consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and Latvia took place in Liepāja, Latvia. The participants discussed items on the bilateral agenda, regional security, support for Ukraine, sanctions against Russia and Belarus, and cooperation within international organizations.
The discussions also covered both countries’ upcoming preparations for their presidencies of the Council of the EU, as well as the interests of the region in the context of Latvia's non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council for 2026-2027.
The Lithuanian and Latvian delegations also visited the Latvian National Armed Forces Naval Training Centre, where the Baltic States Divers Training Centre, the Mine Countermeasures Training Centre and Equipment Repair Centre were opened in 2001.
Informal consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and Latvia, aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries, have been held for the ninth time. Next year, similar consultations will take place in Lithuania.
