CONSULATE HEADED BY LITHUANIA’S HONORARY CONSUL OPENS IN PORTUGAL
On 14 June, consulate headed by Lithuania’s Honorary Consul Jorge Antas de Barros was opened in the city of Viseu, Portugal. J.Antas de Barros is a lawyer, who was recently appointed to this position. Portugal’s Districts of Coimbra, Aveiro, Guarda and Vila Real are also in his jurisdiction.
The inauguration of the consulate took place in the Mayor`s Office and near the consulate building. The ceremony was attended by Lithuania’s Ambassador to Portugal Algimantas Rimkūnas, Mayor of the city of Viseu Fernando Ruas, who is also the President of the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities, members of the city council, businessmen and other guests.
The city of Viseu is in the northern part of Portugal, where a lot of industrial, energy, agricultural and service companies are based. Enterprises from Lithuania aim to develop relations with those companies. A number of Erasmus exchange students from Lithuanian higher education institutions study at the universities in this region.
The consulate headed by Lithuania’s Honorary Consul in Viseu is the first foreign honorary consulate in this city.
