COMMENT ON THE INCIDENT IN BELARUS
Lithuania’s Embassy in Belarus handed a diplomatic note to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus regarding the incident of 6 November, when Molotov cocktails where thrown to the Lithuanian Embassy in Belarus. The chief of the Belarusian diplomatic mission will be summoned to the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and demanded to ensure that Belarus, as the host country, respects the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations regarding the protection, security and safety of diplomatic missions, and that competent Belarusian institutions immediately take all the necessary steps to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
The MFA is ready for judicial cooperation with Belarus and will call on Lithuanian experts to help promptly investigate the offence. Competent Lithuanian institutions are informed about the incident. They will take all the necessary steps in the areas of their competence to enhance the protection, security and safety of the diplomatic mission.
