CLOSER ECONOMIC COOPERATION BETWEEN LITHUANIA AND LIBYA IS ENCOURAGED
On 27-29 October, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Deividas Matulionis together with the delegation of Lithuanian diplomats and businessmen was on a visit in Libya. The aim of the visit was to establish closer political and business relations with this state rich in oil and gas. During the visit, the Memorandum of Mutual Understanding concerning bilateral consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and Libya was signed. Lithuanian delegation also presented the draft of the bilateral agreement on the promotion and reciprocal protection of investments.
During the short visit to Libya, meetings with officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Libyan Parliament took place. At these meetings, issues concerning bilateral cooperation with the Ministry of Economy, Council of business and investments promotion were discussed. The delegation, headed by the State Secretary of the Ministry, also met with representatives of the National oil corporation of Libya.
Lithuania and Libya established diplomatic relations on 11 June this year.
