CHINA DAYS WILL BE HELD IN VILNIUS

On 25-31 October, the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Lithuania-Chinа Forum in cooperation with the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Lithuania are holding the China Days in Lithuania 2010. The China Days were initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of Expo 2010 which is hosted by Shanghai. On 25 October at the World Expo, Lithuania celebrates its National Pavilion Day.

On 25 October at 4:00 p.m., two exhibitions will be opened at the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The first one will celebrate the 200th anniversary of Oriental Studies at Vilnius University. The exhibition displays books and manuscripts from the collections of Vilnius University Library, they illustrate the contribution of the Lithuanian scholars to the oriental studies and their interest in the oriental culture over the past two hundred years.

The other exhibition entitled “Look at China” will feature the photographs that were taken by Vytautas Daraškevičius in China.

The opening of the exhibitions will be attended by Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė and by Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Lithuania Mingtao Tong.

On 28 October, the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will host a discussion entitled “Lithuania and China: the Potential of Transportation and Logistics”, during which politicians and business representatives will discuss possibilities for developing cooperation with China and for making use of the Lithuanian transportation and logistics capabilities. The non-governmental organization Baltic Vision Group prepared a study entitled “Transport development in Lithuania: China’s potential”, which will be presented to the participants. Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė will welcome the participants of the discussion.

During the China Days, the inaugural meeting of the association “Lithuania – China Forum” will also take place. Professor Deborah A. Sommer from the U.S.A. will deliver a public lecture on the traditional Chinese culture in today’s China. The participants of the China Days will be able to learn about the traditional Chinese medicine and cuisine. The Week of Chinese Films opens at the cinema boutique Pasaka, during which four Chinese films will be screened to the public free of charge.
