Chancellor Raguckienė attends meeting of State Secretaries of EU Foreign Ministries in Tallinn
On 1-2 June, the Chancellor of Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jūratė Raguckienė attended the meeting of the State Secretaries/Chancellors of the European Union’s Foreign Ministries.
The Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs acquainted the State Secretaries of EU Foreign Ministries with priorities of the Estonian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. In the second half of 2017, Estonia will focus on an open and innovative European economy, a safe and secure Europe, a digital Europe and the free flow of data, as well as an inclusive and sustainable Europe.
One of the working sessions was used to discuss the Eastern Partnership (EaP). The discussions highlighted the need to help our partners improve protection and resilience against internal and external threats, to devote more attention and to provide more support to our partners wishing to pursue deeper relations with the EU, not forgetting also other Eastern Partnership countries.
The Chancellor of Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry Raguckienė said that “Success of the Eastern Partnership Summit in Brussels will require more than a review of achievements connected with purely practical cooperation – it is necessary to create an ambitious political vision into the future of the Eastern Partnership.”
The participants of the meeting also discussed issues related to digital diplomacy, cyber threats and management of the European External Action Service (EEAS). The Estonian Government’s achievements in the provision of public electronic services and their benefits were also presented.
The meeting of the State Secretaries of EU Foreign Ministries is traditionally held in the upcoming Presidency of the Council of the EU. Estonia will take over the Presidency from Malta on 1 July 2017.
