Chancellor of the Ministry Stakėnienė: Ukraine’s EU membership is the best security support not only for Ukraine but also for ourselves

On 16-17 June, the Chancellor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Aistė Stakėnienė participated in the meeting of the Chancellors of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the European Union, where the priorities of the program of the upcoming Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU were presented.
“We support Denmark’s focus on strengthening the EU’s security, support for Ukraine, and competitiveness. There is a need to rapidly increase pressure on Russia by extending sectoral sanctions, adopting an ambitious 18th package of sanctions, and expanding tariffs on Russian products. We expect the opening of all negotiating clusters with Ukraine by the end of 2025, as Ukraine's EU membership is the best security guarantee not only for Ukraine but also for ourselves," said Stakėnienė.
Denmark has chosen the EU's security and competitiveness as the main priorities of its presidency. The first part of the priorities include strengthening the EU's defense industry, supporting Ukraine, advancing EU enlargement process, managing migration, and protecting external borders.
Increasing EU competitiveness will be aligned with the goals of the green transition, simplifying regulations, ensuring economic security and energy independence, and initiating negotiations on the next EU multiannual financial framework (MFF) for 2028-2034.
The meeting of the Chancellors of the EU Foreign Affairs Ministries is traditionally held in the country that will hold the presidency of the EU Council in the next half-air. Currently, Poland holds the presidency and will hand it over to Denmark on July 1, 2025.
