CHAIRMAN OF CoE COMMITTEE OF MINISTERS ANTANAS VALIONIS RECEIVES MEMBERSHIP COMMITMENTS FROM BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

On 14 March, Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (CoE), Lithuanian Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis received a letter from Bosnian-Herzegovinian leaders with assurances that the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its people are prepared to assume all commitments linked to CoE membership. The letter comes in response to Minister Valionis’ inquiry to the leaders of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the Balkan state in the name of the CoE members was asked to carry on its obligations to secure the peace in the region under the Dayton and Paris agreements of 1995, to co-operate with International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia and to adhere to the Constitutional Court’s decisions providing for equal rights to the constituent territories of the state. Foreign Minister said he hoped to see the Bosnia and Herzegovina delegation at the 110th session of the Committee of Ministers to be held on 2-3 May in Vilnius. According to Antanas Valionis, the decision on CoE membership of Bosnia and Herzegovina is expected to be made already in March at the Committee of Ministers by all CoE members. Foreign Minister plans his visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina on 2-5 April.
