On 9 July at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania (MFA), a meeting between Chief of Lithuanian Diplomacy Antanas Valionis and Lithuanian businessmen working in Latvia took place. Lithuanian-Latvian trade and economic relations, recent disagreements on the restrictions of pork import, the refusal to issue a license to import Lithuanian flour to Latvia and the withdrawal of veterinary inspectors from the Lithuanian-Latvian border cross points were discussed at the meeting.

The businessmen expressed their support to the efforts made by the Lithuanian diplomacy in defending their business interests and approved the MFA’s position to overcome the disagreements by means of negotiations. The businessmen stressed their interest in a balanced trade with Latvia and promotion of Lithuanian goods in the neighbouring country. Both sides expressed their belief that joint efforts by the representatives of Lithuanian institutions, diplomats and business people would lead to a totally free trade among the Baltic States.
