Budrys with the Ambassador of Canada: Lithuania to seek ways to strengthen transatlantic...

On 18 February, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Kęstutis Budrys, met with the Ambassador of Canada to Lithuania, Jeanette Sautner.

During the meeting, the Foreign Minister noted the long-standing and growing bilateral ties between Lithuania and Canada, underlining the importance of the transatlantic relationship and Canada’s contribution to regional security.

“The Baltic and Nordic countries as well as Canada attach importance to the security of the Arctic region, where Russia and China are increasingly expanding their influence. Lithuania, together with its Nordic and Baltic Sea region partners, will seek opportunities to make a significant contribution to strengthening the security of the Arctic region. Canada has a key role to play here,” said the head of Lithuanian diplomacy.

The Foreign Minister and the Ambassador also exchanged views on strengthening political and economic cooperation between Lithuania and Canada, including partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region.

Jeanette Sautner is the first Canadian Ambassador to Lithuania with residence in Vilnius. The official opening of the Canadian Embassy in Vilnius took place on 10 July 2023. Until then, since 15 January 1992, the Embassy of Canada had an Office in Lithuania.
