Budrys: The EU stands united and firm in the face of Belarusian hybrid attacks
On 18 December, the European Parliament adopted a resolution condemning Belarus for a sharp rise in coordinated hybrid attacks against Lithuania and the European Union (EU).
The head of Lithuania's diplomacy, Kęstutis Budrys, thanked the European Parliament for expressing a strong and united position on the malicious activities carried out by Belarus.
"Belarusian hybrid attacks target not only Lithuania but the EU as a whole. Today's resolution sends a clear message to Belarus from the Union: we will respond to hybrid attacks together," Budrys stressed.
The resolution, to which Lithuania’s elected Members of the European Parliament contributed significantly, notes that Belarus is constantly violating Lithuanian airspace using unmanned aerial vehicles and balloons, conducting cyberattacks, disinformation campaigns, economic coercion, and the instrumentalization of migration.
Budrys thanked Lithuania’s representatives in the European Parliament for their crucial role in drafting the resolution.
"Only through close cooperation can we achieve decisions that matter for Lithuania", stressed the Minister.
The resolution calls for stronger EU–NATO cooperation on airspace security and action to counter hybrid threats, enhanced airspace surveillance and counter-UAV capabilities, improved intelligence sharing, and increased investment in the EU’s eastern border security and critical infrastructure.
