On 16 June the Minister of Foreign Affairs Kęstutis Budrys began his visit to Israel by visiting the Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Centre, in Jerusalem, where he paid tribute to the victims of the Holocaust and became acquainted with the centre's activities.

The Minister laid a wreath in the Hall of Memory to honour the memory of the victims of the Holocaust. He also visited the Holocaust history exposition, the Children's Memorial, and the Avenue of the Righteous Among the Nations, where 928 Lithuanians who rescued Jews are commemorated.

"The Yad Vashem helps us understand how easily humanity’s path can slide to crime and inspires hope that we can resist moral decline even during gloomy times. Remembering the Jews murdered during the Holocaust and the Righteous Among the Nations who resisted evil, we commit to do our utmost to prevent such tragic crimes from happening again," said Budrys.

Approximately six million Jews were murdered during the Holocaust, including 190,000 Jews in Lithuania. During the Nazi occupation, almost the entire Litvak community was destroyed.

Yad Vashem is one of the world's most important memorials and research centers dedicated to the victims of the Holocaust. It documents and investigates information about Jews murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators, destroyed communities,  Ghetto fighters, resistance movements, and the rescuers of Jews. Lithuanian institutions engaged in memory, education, and research cooperate with Yad Vashem.
