Budrys met with the President of Israel and the Speaker of the Knesset
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kęstutis Budrys, continues his visit to Israel. On 17 June, the Minister met with the President of Israel, Isaac Herzog, and the Speaker of the Knesset, Amir Ohana.
The Minister and the Speaker of the Knesset discussed bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Israel, the region's security situation, and the fight against antisemitism.
During the meetings, the Minister underlined that Lithuania supports Israel's right to defend itself, in accordance with international law, humanitarian and human rights standards. He stressed the importance of achieving lasting and sustainable peace in the Middle East and confirmed Lithuania's support for the two-state solution. The Minister also drew attention to the concerningsituation in the West Bank. According to the head of Lithuania's diplomacy, the deteriorating situation, settler violence, and the expansion of settlements increase tensions and further complicate prospects for peace.
The Minister confirmed Lithuania's unwavering commitment to combating all manifestations of hatred, to strengthening the promotion of Holocaust remembrance, and to supporting the Jewish community.
"Lithuania has learned the painful lessons of history, therefore, we are committed to strengthening the knowledge of Litvak history and culture, preservingthe memory of the victims of the Holocaust, eradicatingmanifestations of anti-Semitism, and doing everything possible to ensure that Jews in Lithuania live in safety and dignity, and Litvaks living in Israel would wish to return to live inLithuania or contribute to the implementation of cultural, educational, economic and other initiatives linking both countries," the Minister said.
