On 29 June, during his visit to North Macedonia,  the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Kęstutis Budrys met with President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova and Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski. During the meetings, the Minister, the President of North Macedonia and the Prime Minister discussed the strengthening of bilateral relations, prospects for the enlargement of the European Union and the security situation in the region.

The meetings focused on the enlargement of the European Union. Budrys emphasized that EU enlargement is a strategic necessity to ensure security, stability and prosperity in Europe, and Lithuania will pay special attention to this topic during the Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2027.

"The EU enlargement today is not a choice but a necessity: it strengthens the security and resilience of Europe as a whole. Lithuania will pay particular attention to this objective during its Presidency of the EU in 2027", stressed Budrys.

The Minister confirmed Lithuania's consistent support for North Macedonia's accession to the European Union and underlined its readiness to share experience in implementing reforms, strengthening institutions and implementing EU standards.

The discussion on the security situation focused on Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine and the importance of international support.

"With Russia not showing any intention to end the aggression, we must do everything in our power to strengthen Ukraine's negotiating position," he said.

The Minister also took stock of North Macedonia’s contribution to supporting Ukraine and called for continued support, especially in view of Ukraine’s urgent defence needs.
