Budrys met with the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Palau, Jennifer S. Olegeriil

On 4 September, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Kęstutis Budrys met with the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Palau Jennifer S. Olegeriil. The ministers discussed possible bilateral cooperation to strengthen international security, build resilience against China's economic coercion, implement joint digitalization projects, enhance cybersecurity, and combat disinformation, as well as foster cultural and tourism ties.

“Despite the geographical distance between the Indo-Pacific region and Lithuania, the geopolitical processes taking place there are of global significance. We consistently work to find new partners with whom we can develop mutually beneficial relations in the economic, security, and other areas. Palau and Lithuania face similar challenges and can help each other adapt to new global trends," said the head of Lithuania's diplomacy.

Lithuania has adopted an Indo-Pacific Strategy aimed at strengthening cooperation with like-minded countries in the region that support international law and democratic values, increasing Lithuania’s ability to act in a global environment, and contributing to the preservation of the rules-based global order, security, and resilience to geoeconomic threats.

The strategy also provides for the search for economic opportunities even in smaller markets, which would open the door to future projects in the fields of green energy, climate change management, and sustainable development, where Palau has considerable experience.

Minister Olegeriil is in Lithuania to participate in the Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF) seminar focused on supply chain and economic resilience issues. She will also meet with representatives of other state institutions and non-governmental organisations.
Lithuania established diplomatic relations with Palau in 2013.
