Budrys met with the Danish Foreign Minister
On 28 January, Kęstutis Budrys met with the Danish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, who arrived in Lithuania.
During the meeting, the Ministers discussed bilateral and regional relations between Lithuania and Denmark, the security situation in the Euro-Atlantic area, the common response to emerging security challenges, and support for Ukraine.
At the meeting, Minister Budrys stressed that Lithuania appreciates the excellent bilateral relationship with Denmark, a reliable EU partner, a NATO ally, and a like-minded country belonging to the Nordic-Baltic Eight family.
The Minister noted that Lithuania supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark, as the principles of international law are indisputable and fundamental to maintaining global peace and stability.
"Security in the Arctic is a matter of security for all NATO allies. Thus, we need to assume shared responsibility in strengthening this region. Lithuania is ready to contribute," Budrys said.
The head of Lithuania's diplomacy also emphasized that with the escalating hybrid threats posed by Russia, a strong Baltic-Nordic partnership is a cornerstone for regional security.
Lithuanian and Danish Ministers also discussed support for Ukraine.
“Denmark’s military support to Ukraine is impressive. Together with European and other partners, we need to do more to strengthen Ukraine’s position for a sustainable and lasting peace by ensuring sufficient and long-term funding for the armed forces of Ukraine and further increasing the pressure on Russia by tightening sanctions,” the Minister said.
Budrys also stressed that the destruction of Ukraine's civilian and energy infrastructure is an apparent war crime committed by Russia, for which accountability must await.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, came to Lithuania during the state visit of the King and Queen of Denmark.
