Budrys met with Jordan's Minister of Foreign Affairs
On 17 April, Minister of Foreign Affairs Kęstutis Budrys met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan Ayman Safadi on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
The Lithuanian and Jordanian Ministers discussed opportunities to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation on regional security, humanitarian aid, and international law.
The head of Lithuania's diplomacy expressed our country’s strong solidarity with Jordan regarding the Iranian attacks carried out against its territory. The Minister also thanked Jordan for its assistance to citizens of our country and other EU member states during their evacuation from the region of military tension during the recent crisis.
“Lithuania highly values Jordan’s role in ensuring regional stability and consistently supports your country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. We are ready to further deepen our dialogue and cooperation, based on respect for international law and joint efforts to create a safer environment in both the Middle East and Europe,” said Budrys.
When discussing the situation in the Middle East, the Minister expressed support for the U.S.-Iran ceasefire and for international efforts to counter the Iranian regime’s threats to the region and the international community, including its military cooperation with Russia and its direct support for the aggression against Ukraine.
The Minister also reiterated Lithuania’s position that Russia’s aggression against Ukraine poses a threat to global security and the rules-based international order, while Ukraine, unlike the aggressor state, remains a reliable partner. Lithuania thanked Jordan for its principled stance on this issue at the United Nations and invited it to continue supporting efforts related to the return of illegally abducted Ukrainian children.
In Turkey, Budrys is attending the annual Antalya Diplomacy Forum, which this year has brought together some 460 high-level guests and 5,000 participants from 150 countries. Tomorrow, the Minister will join the heads of diplomacy from Latvia, Romania, and Turkey, as well as NATO’s Deputy Secretary General, in a forum discussion titled “Securing Europe: Unity and Strategic Renewal towards NATO Ankara Summit.”
