Budrys met in Munich with the ministers of the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) and Ukraine
On 14 February, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Kęstutis Budrys, met with the foreign ministers of the Nordic and Baltic countries and Ukraine.
The ministers discussed the situation in Ukraine and Ukraine's most critical battlefield needs, as well as the reconstruction of the country's civilian energy infrastructure and progress in peace talks.
At the meeting, Budrys stressed that support for Ukraine is crucial not only to help the country survive the aggressor's intense attacks on its energy infrastructure but also to strengthen Ukraine's position in peace talks in order to achieve a sustainable and just peace in Ukraine.
The head of Lithuania's diplomacy welcomed the EU's decision to grant Ukraine a €90 billion loan and stressed the importance of increasing further support. The minister noted that in January 2026, Lithuania provided a batch of electricity generators to Ukraine worth more than €2 million and is also committed to spending 0.25% of its GDP on Ukraine's defence annually.
“We must do our utmost to strengthen Ukraine’s negotiating position by continuing military support, setting a clear date for Ukraine’s EU membership by 2030, and ensuring that Ukraine receives strong security guarantees,” Budrys said.
The Minister emphasized that the Kremlin shows no signs of progress or willingness to seek peace and is manipulating the peace process; therefore, pressure on the aggressor must be increased through sanctions i
