Budrys meets with Ukrainian Ambassador: European security depends on our joint commitment
On 30 January, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Kęstutis Budrys, met with the outgoing Ambassador of Ukraine to Lithuania, Petro Beshta.
The head of Lithuania's diplomacy thanked the ambassador for his active and meaningful tenure. Budrys reaffirmed Lithuania’s commitment to continue developing bilateral relations, and emphasized the joint effort to help Ukraine achieve victory.
“We must pursue peace not only by stopping the war but by stopping Russia’s aggression. To do this, we must continue strengthening Ukraine. A hasty ceasefire will not lead to sustainable peace — it will encourage Russia to advance further. The most reliable security guarantee for Ukraine and a long-term peace measure is Ukraine's NATO membership,” emphasized the Foreign Minister.
The meeting discussed the situation at the front, military and political aid priorities for Ukraine, support for Ukraine’s energy sector, and Ukraine’s EU accession process. Minister Kęstutis Budrys noted that Lithuania will continue its support for Ukraine in this process. In January 2025, Lithuania began implementing the EU integration support measure for Ukraine (Ukraine2EU), aimed at helping prepare for EU membership.
“As we approach the sad anniversary — three years since the start of Russia's war — we must realize that Europe must take on greater responsibility. Ukraine’s future and European security depend on our joint commitment. The highest priority in this context remains increasing military support for Ukraine, investing in Ukraine’s defense industry, and alongside that, strengthening pressure on Russia,” the Foreign Minister noted.
