Budrys meets with the Secretary for Relations with States of the Holy See

On 1 September, on the sidelines of the international Bled Strategic Forum conference Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Kęstutis Budrys met with Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations of the Holy See.

During the meeting, the Minister Budrys expressed gratitude for the clear and widely heard position of Pope Leo XIV within international community regarding Russia’s aggression in Ukraine, the Holy See's commitment to a just and lasting peace, and its humanitarian support for the Ukrainian people suffering from the aggression.

“The voice and position of the Holy See on Russia’s war against Ukraine is crucial for the pursuit peace. The international community must act together to compel Russia to end its aggression in Ukraine and to sit down at the negotiating table," the minister said.

Minister Budrys invited Archbishop Gallagher to visit Lithuania early next year to commemorate the centenary of the Holy See’s important document - the apostolic constitution Lituanorum Gente, which holds significance for both the Lithuanian state and the Church in Lithuania. The document, issued by Pope Pius XI on 4 April 1926, established the ecclesiastical province of Lithuania and placed the Catholic Church in Lithuania directly under the authority of the Holy See.
