Budrys meets with the Governor of Alaska
On 19 March, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Kęstutis Budrys, met with the Governor of Alaska, Mike Dunleavy, on the sidelines of the Miami Security Forum. The meeting focused on energy security and energy cooperation with the U.S., security challenges facing the Arctic region, and cooperation on critical minerals.
During the conversation, the Minister emphasized the importance of energy independence from Russia and noted that Lithuania became the first European Union country to completely stop the import of Russian gas, oil, and electricity.
"Energy cooperation and the growing contribution of the United States to European energy security is a crucial investment in strengthening the transatlantic bond and regional security," the Minister said.
The head of Lithuania's diplomacy also underscored that as Russia and China are expanding their footprint in the Arctic region, thus transforming it into a zone of high geopolitical tension that is fundamentally linked to Baltic Sea security.
