Budrys: Lithuania and the UK are strategic partners and NATO allies united by a shared ambition to strengthen the security of Europe and the Alliance as a whole
On 27 January, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kęstutis Budrys, met with the Minister of State for Europe, North America and Overseas Territories in the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), Stephen Doughty.
At the bilateral meeting with the Minister of State for Europe, North America and Overseas Territories, the head of Lithuania's diplomacy discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation, the transatlantic link, support for Ukraine and its reconstruction, sanctions against Russia and Belarus.
“Lithuania and the United Kingdom are strategic partners, NATO allies, and like-minded states, united by shared values and a common approach to geopolitical processes on the European continent and globally. We work together, both bilaterally and in international formats, to consistently strengthen the continent’s security architecture and ensure that our cooperation remains relevant for both Europe and the transatlantic space,” said Budrys.
The meeting also discussed the practical implementation of the UK-Lithuania strategic partnership and the joint declaration on bilateral cooperation, the progress of EU-UK negotiations, and Lithuania's readiness to hold the Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of the next year.
