On 17 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Kęstutis Budrys met with U.S. Congresswoman Young Kim in Washington. They discussed the security situation in Europe and the Indo-Pacific region, the strategic partnership between Lithuania and the U.S., and opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation.

The Minister and the Congresswoman also discussed security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region and the impact of China’s actions on international security.

“Lithuania and the United States are bound by a strong strategic partnership based on shared values and interests. Today, as security challenges become increasingly complex both in Europe and in the Indo-Pacific region, it is particularly important to strengthen the unity and cooperation among democratic nations,” said Budrys.

The Minister thanked the Congresswoman for the U.S. Congress’s continued support for the Baltic states, particularly in implementing the Baltic Security Initiative. Budrys outlined Lithuania’s contribution to strengthening the security of NATO’s eastern flank and provided an overview of the region's security situation. He emphasized that Russia is increasingly engaging in kinetic actions that heighten security risks.

During the meeting, Budrys and Kim also discussed opportunities to further develop Lithuanian-U.S. cooperation in economic security, advanced technologies, and other areas of mutual importance to both countries.
