Budrys in Brussels: By exerting pressure, the Lukashenko regime seeks legitimacy; the EU’s response must be sanctions

On 2 December, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kęstutis Budrys, met with Lithuanian Members of the European Parliament in Brussels. During the discussion, which took place on the eve of the NATO Foreign Ministers' meeting, the head of Lithuania's diplomacy answered questions from MEPs on topical foreign policy topics.

Much attention was paid to Lithuania's national and EU response to the recent hybrid attack on our country by the Lukashenka regime.

The Minister thanked the Members of the European Parliament for their contribution in highlighting issues important to Lithuania on the agendas of the Parliament and the European Commission and, especially for informing and rallying the support of the parliamentary political groups for Lithuania in shaping the European political position in support of our country.

"We appreciate your input and support. Your parliamentary experience and excellent knowledge of the political climate in Brussels make a significant contribution to ensuring the support of EU countries for Lithuania," said Budrys.

According to the Minister, by exerting pressure on Lithuania, the Lukashenka regime is seeking legitimacy internationally. Therefore, the only possible response is to impose new, strict sectoral sanctions against Belarus.
